How to use
Paste a link or any text — the QR code appears instantly. For Wi-Fi, choose “Wi-Fi” and enter the network name and password: guests can join just by pointing their phone camera at it. Download the code as PNG (for documents and social media) or SVG (for printing at any size).
Besides text and Wi-Fi you can make a QR code for a contact card (vCard — the phone offers to save the contact), an email with a prefilled subject, a phone call or an SMS. If the code is lighter than the background or the colors are too close, you’ll get a warning: many scanners can’t read such codes.
The QR code is created in your browser — neither the link nor your Wi-Fi password is sent anywhere. The code never expires: it contains the data itself, not a link to our service.
Error correction level
A QR code can still be read when part of it is damaged or covered. A higher level survives more damage but makes the code denser:
- L — recovery of about 7% of total codewords, the most compact code;
- M — up to 15%, fine for most uses;
- Q — up to 25%, for packaging and signs;
- H — up to 30%, if you’ll put a logo on top.
FAQ
Do colored QR codes work? Yes, as long as the code is dark on a light background with strong contrast. Light codes on dark backgrounds don’t work with every scanner.
How big should a printed QR code be? At least about 0.8 × 0.8 in (2 × 2 cm) on a business card, and roughly 1/10 of the scanning distance — about 1 ft (30 cm) wide to scan from 10 ft away. Use SVG for print.
How much data fits? In byte mode, the theoretical maximum is 2,953 bytes for version 40 at error correction level L. Capacity is lower at higher correction levels. The number of characters also depends on their UTF-8 byte length.
Can I make a QR code for a Wi-Fi network without sharing the password out loud? That’s exactly what the Wi-Fi option is for: print it and put it on the fridge.
