How to use
Enter the original price and the discount percentage — you’ll see the sale price and how much you save. Use the “Find” field for the reverse questions: the original price from a sale price, or the discount percentage from the old and new prices.
Formula
sale price = price × (1 − discount / 100)
For example, $59.99 at 30% off: 59.99 × 0.7 = $41.99, you save $18.00.
Examples
- A $120 jacket at 25% off costs $90 — you save $30.
- Two discounts in a row, 20% and then another 10%, are not 30% off: $100 → $80 → $72, which is 28% off in total.
FAQ
How do I find the original price? Divide the sale price by (1 − discount / 100): $90 / 0.75 = $120.
How do I work out the discount percentage? Divide the amount saved by the original price and multiply by 100: 30 / 120 × 100 = 25%.
Is sales tax included? No. In the US, sales tax is usually added at checkout on the discounted price.
Do a discount and a markup of the same percentage cancel out? No: $100 − 20% = $80, but $80 + 20% = $96. To price products, use the markup calculator.
