How to use
Paste numbers separated by spaces, commas or new lines — you can copy a column straight from a spreadsheet. Use a dot for decimals: “1.5”. The mean, median, mode and other statistics appear instantly.
Standard deviation shows how spread out the values are around the mean. Use the sample version (divides by n − 1) when your numbers are a sample from a larger group, and the population version (divides by n) when you have every value. Variance is the standard deviation squared.
What’s calculated
- Mean — the sum of all numbers divided by how many there are.
- Median — the middle value of the sorted list (with an even count, the average of the two middle values).
- Mode — the most frequent value; if several values tie, all of them are shown.
- Range — the difference between the maximum and the minimum.
Examples
- For 12, 15, 11, 15, 18, 20, 15: mean 15.14, median 15, mode 15, range 9.
- Salaries of $30k, $35k, $40k, $45k and $250k: the mean is $80k, but the median is $40k. The median better reflects a typical value when there are outliers.
FAQ
What’s the difference between the mean and the median? The mean is pulled by very large or very small values; the median isn’t. That’s why salaries and house prices are usually reported as medians.
What if there is no mode? If every number appears only once, there is no mode — the calculator says so.
Is there a limit on how many numbers I can enter? No, everything is calculated in your browser.
